BOSTON, Mass. - Despite a career-best showing from
Omarion Jett (Montclair, N.J.), the Norwich University men's basketball team suffered an 85-73 setback to Emmanuel College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday afternoon at the Jean Yawkey Center.
Jett was virtually unstoppable for the Cadets, going 12-18 from the floor, including drilling five treys, to finish with a game-best 31 points.Â
Kohlby Murray (Fair Haven, Vt.) and
Charles Nogard (Ovieda, Fla.) added 11 points apiece, while
Joe Joe DuBrul (Shelburne, Vt.) handed out a game-high six assists.
The Cadets controlled the early goings, striking first on Jett's opening basket, but could not separate themselves from the Saints for the opening 10 minutes. After Emmanuel claimed a three-point edge at the 11:36 mark, Norwich exploded, embarking on a 13-0 run to capture the Cadets' largest lead of the contest, book-ended by baskets from Nogard.
Emmanuel responded with their own run, eventually taking a six-point lead towards the end of the first stanza. The Saints remained in front until the Cadets knotted things up on several occasions, and taking a pair of leads, in the opening minutes of the second half.
After Jett brought the game to 56-all, Emmanuel captured the momentum, rushing out to a double-digit lead and shutting down a late Cadet run, which saw DuBrul whittle the game back down to single-digits.
Norwich owned a 9-6 edge in second-chance points and tied the Saints in points in the paint, 42-42.
The Cadets will look to right the ship on Tuesday, Jan. 16, traveling to Regis College for a 7:00 p.m. conference bout in Weston, Mass.
