ALBANY, N.Y.- In their season opener, the Norwich Men's Soccer team traveled to Russell Sage College, where they came away with a scoreless draw Sunday afternoon.
The Cadets held the early possession advantage, generating their first shot on target within the first minutes with a header by
Kam Jorgenson (Titusville, Fla.). Jorgenson would tally another shot on goal before the break and
Brice Eka (Gaithersburg, Md.) added a third attempt on goal. Overall, Norwich outshot the Gators 6-2 in the opening frame.
In the second half, the Cadets kept the pressure on generating two more shots on goal by
Jami Lashua (Williston, Vt.) and
Nathan Statires (Hampton, N.H.). In the dying seconds, Norwich was awarded two corner kicks but came up empty.
"The team played really well defensively and kept a clean sheet which was one of our goals before the game," said Head Coach
Staige Davis. "Lots of positives to build on, including generating some Grade-A opportunities."Â
The Cadets will continue their road swing when they open Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play with a trip to Emmanuel on Sept 5. Kickoff is set for 7 PM.
