LYNDONVILLE, Vt. - The Norwich University volleyball team went 1-1 on the second and final day of the Vermont Volleyball Classic, coasting past Vermont State University Lyndon (25-12, 25-5, 25-17) before falling to Vermont State University Castleton (16-25, 25-10, 17-25, 24-26) in Lyndon's Stannard Gymnasium.
Katie Finn (Peru, N.Y.)Â logged a game-high six kills in the win over the Hornets, while
Gina Caraccio (Churchville, Pa.) tallied 11 assists.Â
Sarah DeBot (Rochester, N.Y.) finished with 16 digs.
The Cadets controlled the tone early in nearly all three sets, rushing out to quick leads in the first and third while overcoming a swift 1-0 deficit in the second set to take a double-digit edge. Norwich had its most dominant showing during a 9-0 spurt in the third, which included four kills between Finn, Caraccio, and
Grace Davie (Lynnfield, Mass.).
The odds were not as kind to Norwich in the outing against Castleton, despite 11 kills from
Sam Lebruska (Lynnfield, Mass.) and 10 kills from
Abby Kanaga (Apopka, Fla.). Caraccio dished out 33 helpers, while four Cadets recorded double-digit digs, spearheaded by DeBot's 24 and 20 from
Lillie Ells (Centerville, Mass.).
Norwich will take a week away from action before returning to the hardwood on September 9, when they travel to the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts for a 12:00 p.m. outing. The Cadets will follow that up with their home opener on Tuesday, September 12, hosting Plymouth State University at 6:00 p.m.
