NORTHFIELD, Vt.- The Norwich University Baseball team rounded out their regular season by splitting a doubleheader with Anna Maria Friday afternoon on Senior Day at Garrity Field.
The star of the show was left-handed starting pitcher
Matt Ingraffia (Lake Grove, N.Y.). Following up his 13-strikeout performance against Rivier in his most recent outing, Ingraffia shut down a potent Amcats offense by tossing a complete game shutout in the first game. He only allowed four hits while striking out nine and throwing 59% of his pitches for strikes.
With Ingraffia taking care of business on the mound, the Cadet offense went to work and gave him five runs to work with in the fifth inning. With the bases loaded and one out,
Ryan Miller (Westhampton, N.Y.) laced a double to centerfield scoring the first two runs of the game. After an intentional walk to
Geffen Franus (Leesburg, Va.) to load the bases, a failed pick off attempt to second base brought
PJ Morales (Bakersfield, Calif.) home from third. Later in the same at-bat,
Hayden Roberge (Middlesex, Vt.) plated Miller with an RBI double. Soon after, Franus came home on a wild pitch rounding out the inning.
Anna Maria got ahead early in the second game and never looked back despite Roberge notching two more RBIs in the seventh.
Roberge was one of six seniors honored before the twin bill. Others recognized were
Abel Oropeza (Whittier, Calif.), Morales,
Zeb Perrault (Chelsea, Vt.),
Ryland Richardson (Windsor, Vt.), and
Matt Macaluso (Barrington, R.I.).
