NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Norwich University women's lacrosse team fell victim to an early Colby-Sawyer College onslaught on Wednesday afternoon, dropping a 14-4 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) affair to the Chargers.
Michaila Furchak (Nyack, N.Y.), Emma O'Neill (Hamburg, N.Y.), Neris Archambault (Pepperell, Mass.), and
Athena Merck (West Yarmouth, Mass.) all logged goals for the Cadets.
Despite Norwich's strong defensive efforts in the early minutes, the Chargers found an opening nearly six minutes into the contest, ripping in the first of 11-straight goals, building a lead that grew to 10-0 at halftime before Sydney Stevens logged the 11th tally.
The Cadets gained some momentum in the third frame courtesy of a 3-0 run, as Furchak, O'Neill, and Archambault combined for scores. The optimism was short-lived, however, as Colby-Sawyer ended the game on a 3-1 spurt.
Norwich will look to rebound on Friday, Apr. 21, in a 5:00 p.m. duel at Regis College. The Cadets then close the regular season next Wednesday, hosting Dean College at 4:00 p.m. on Sabine Field.
