WESTON, Mass. - The Norwich University women's lacrosse team broke open a tilt against Regis College behind a 9-0 run en route to a significant 15-4 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory over the Pride on Friday evening at Regis Stadium.

Athena Merck (West Yarmouth, Mass.) played a notable role in that domination, scoring all of her game-high four goals during that stretch to pace the Cadets.  Maddie Etherton (Johnstown, N.Y.) netted a hat trick, while Michaila Furchak (Nyack, N.Y.) rounded out the Cadets in double-figures with two goals.  Quinn Mustone (Medford, Mass.), Leocadia Clark (Stowe, Vt.), Ellie Moriarty (Stowe, Vt.), Neris Archambault (Pepperell, Mass.), Julia Proto (Orange, Conn.), and Emma O'Neill (Hamburg, N.Y.) all added a goal each.

Furchak got the ball rolling immediately off a Valentina Drown (Acton, Maine) assist just 39 seconds into the contest, but saw her goal neutralized by the Pride's Abbie Doheny just two minutes later.  That set into motion a commanding stretch by Norwich, with goals book-ended by Merck at the 7:15 mark in the first quarter and Archambault with 3:20 remaining in the second stanza.

The Cadets took a 10-1 lead into halftime, and Regis found its biggest success in the third quarter, outscoring the Cadets, 2-1, with another Drown-to-Furchak connection being made in between the Pride's pair of scores.

The Pride would add one more in the fourth quarter, but the Cadets would widen the gap behind three-in-a-row from Etherton, Clark, and Mustone to close out the contest.

Norwich could not be stopped offensively, attempting 37 shots to just 16 for the Pride, while also going 23-28 on clears and securing 32 ground balls.  Maeve Noble-Lowe (Freedom, Maine), meanwhile, was a force between the pipes, logging eight saves in goal to anchor Norwich's strong defensive efforts.

The Cadets will return home for the final regular season game of the 2023 season, hosting Dean College at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Apr. 26 in a GNAC duel.  Norwich currently sits at 6-6 in conference play, holding down the sixth-seed ahead of next week's GNAC playoffs.
