LYNDONVILLE, Vt.- In their second meeting in two weeks, the Norwich University Baseball team was defeated in walk-off fashion by NVU-Lyndon Wednesday night at the Skip Pound Complex.
After a sluggish start, the Cadet bats woke up in the fourth. After a leadoff walk, senior
PJ Morales (Bakersfield, Calif.) was sacrificed over to second setting the table for the red-hot bat of
Geffen Franus (Leesburg, Va.). Franus laced a double to center field to tie the game at one on Norwich's first hit of the game. Two batters later, Franus came home on an RBI single by
Matt Macaluso (Barrington, R.I.) to put the Cadets in front. However, the Hornets answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning.
The 4-2 Hornet lead would stand until the sixth when senior
Hayden Roberge (Middlesex, Vt.) homered to make it a one run game. Eventually, the Cadets would scratch across the tying run in the ninth on a wild pitch with one out. But Lyndon wiggled out of trouble as the bases were left loaded. In the bottom of the inning a one out single ended the game.
Norwich will look to rebound when they return to conference play when they host a doubleheader with Rivier on April 22 at 1 PM.
