NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Cadets split the last two matches of their regular season. In the first of the last two matches, Norwich was defeated by Division II in-state opponent Saint Michael's College. The regular season finale saw the Cadets sweep through Northern Vermont University-Johnson 9-0.
The Division II Saint Michael's solidly defeated Norwich by the score of 7-0. Since the match was held at Saint Michael's, Division II scoring rules were used, which is why there were only 7 possible points on the day. The Purple Knights, currently hosting the first round of the Northeast-10 Conference tennis tournament and ranked 10th in Division II in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association East Region rankings, jumped out early in each of the sets to control the match. The Cadets were unable to gain any momentum throughout the match.
In the regular season finale, Norwich dominated the NUV-Johnson Badgers. The Cadets rolled to a 9-0 road victory. In doubles action,
Molly Twombly (Rockport, Mass.) and
Assumpta Nandawula(Bakersfield, Calif.) were able to secure an 8-6 victory at No. 1. In No. 2 doubles,
Matthias Tchantouridze (Montpelier, Vt.) and
Ethan Teluk (Manlius, N.Y.) had commanding control in their 8-2 win.
Bennett Oakes (Pawtucket, Conn.) and
Pieter Venema (Palmer, Alaska) doubled their opponent 8-4 at No. 3. The Cadets were eaqually in control during the singles competitions. Tchantouridze and Oakes would also add overpowering singles victories to their daily totals while only dropping one set each in their respective No. 1 and No. 5 singles match-ups. Twombly, Nandawula, Teluk, and Venema notched singles victories as well.
