WINTHROP, Mass.- As part of their weekly honors, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference named Norwich freshman Geffen Franus (Leesburgh, Va.) their Rookie of the Week for Baseball the Conference announced Monday afternoon.

Franus's week began with him going four for seven on Apr. 12 in a doubleheader against Colby-Sawyer with two RBIs and two doubles, one of which gave the Cadets the lead in their first conference win of the season. The next day, in Norwich's home opener against NVU-Lyndon, Franus's two-run triple was a key component in the Cadets' win over the Hornets.

However, Franus saved his best performance for the Apr. 15 doubleheader against Dean. In the second game, he finished a triple short of the cycle, despite hitting one in the first game to give Norwich a chance to tie the game late. After hitting a two-run double in the first inning, he hit a two-run home run in the fourth before tacking on an RBI single in the eighth. When all was said and done, Franus went three for five with five RBI and two runs scored. The next day, against Lasell, he would go three for seven with another triple.

This performance placed Franus second on the team, among qualified hitters, in batting average. He also leads the Cadets in RBI (26), slugging percentage (.658), and OPS (1.060). He will look to carry that momentum in Norwich's rematch with NVU-Lyndon on Apr 18 at 3 PM.
