NORTHFIELD, Vt.- The Norwich University Baseball team was victorious in their return to Garrity Field as they took down NVU-Lyndon 13-10 Thursday afternoon.
On a sunny, 70-degree April day, the Cadet bats came out as hot as the sun with a ten-run third inning which began with a walk and one of three Hornet errors in the inning and eight in the game. This set the table for
PJ Morales (Bakersfield, Calif.) to break the ice with an RBI single. Morales would be brought home by
Hayden Roberge (Middlesex, Vt.) two batters later. Soon after, Roberge was on third base, and
John O'Connor (Southington, Conn.) on second who were both driven in with a
Geffen Franus (Leesburg, Va.) triple. Before the inning concluded, Morales would also double home two more runs.
Lyndon would not go down without a fight, as they reduced their deficit to two with seven runs coming home in the sixth including three of four batters notching extra base hits at one point. Norwich gained some breathing room in the bottom of the inning with Roberge coming home on an RBI single by
Abel Oropeza (Whittier, Calif.) who would also bring home the final run of the game in the eighth.
The Cadets will return to conference play Saturday afternoon when they travel to Dean for a doubleheader beginning at 1 PM.
