Box Score 2 Myrtle Beach, SC - Norwich Women's Softball dropped a pair of non-conference games to Bay Path University and Blackburn College on Tuesday.
The early game against Bay Path University, which started at 9 a.m., saw the opponents jump out to a 6 run lead after the first inning. Bay Path was aided by a couple of Norwich errors early in the game to help build the lead they would never relinquish. Offensively,Â
Maren McGinn (Georgia, Vt.),
Liliana Rolfe (Plainville, Mass.),
Rachel Kempf (Warwick, R.I.), and
Laura Deaton (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) each scored runs in the game.Â
Deaton and
Nina Biello (Cranston, R.I.) both had RBIs in the game as well. The only Cadet with multiple hits was
Julia Vawter (Pelhma, N.H.) who went 2-for-3 against Bay Path. In total, the team had 7 hits, 4 runs, 2 RBIs, and collected 3 walks. Â
The second game of the day saw the Cadets fall 5-3 after leading going into the seventh inning. Blackburn posted two runs in the second inning to stake an early lead. The Cadets got on the board with a run in the fourth inning and then took the lead with a pair of runs in the fifth inning. The score would remain 3-2 until the Beavers came to bat in the top of the seventh.Â
McGinn was again central to the Cadets early success. She pitched five innings, allowing eight hits and two runs while striking out three batters before being replaced in the circle for the final two innings. Offensively,
McGinn went 2-for-4 with an RBI.Â
Deaton again had a good offensive game going 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored.Â
Brook Pawlowski and
Rolfe also scored runs while
Sydney Wood (Proctor, Vt.) had the other RBI.  In total, the Cadets had 7 hits with 3 RBIs. Going into the top of the seventh, Norwich held a slim 3-2 lead but surrendered 3 runs to the Beavers to reach the final score of 5-3. Defensively, the Cadets played their best game of the young season and did not commit any errors in the game which helped to keep it close throughout.Â
The Cadets will be off today and return to action Thursday afternoon when they will take on Penn State University-Beaver and Thiel College. The first game will begin at 3 p.m. and be immediately followed with a 5 p.m. game.
