NORTHFIELD, Vt. – In the second half of a New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) Quarterfinal doubleheader, the Norwich University Men's Ice Hockey team defeated New England College 2-1 Saturday night.

The Pilgrims got the scoring started three minutes in on their first shot of the game. However, the Cadets would respond three minutes later with a powerplay goal by
Keegan Mantaro (Monument, Colo.). The shot from the blueline surprised a screened Andrew Kormos. Towards the end of the frame,
Alex Lewis (Moncton, New Brunswick) and
Holden Doggett (Oakville, On.) broke in on a two-on-one. Kormos stopped the original shot but
Braedyn Aubin (Woodstock, On.) cleaned up the rebound to put Norwich in front.
Despite no goals being scored in the second period, the Cadets were all over the Pilgrims holding a 14-8 shot advantage in the frame. In the third, Norwich prevented the Pilgrims from sustaining pressure and
Drennen Atherton (Winter Haven, Fla.) shut the door making 24 saves on the night.
"We got huge efforts up and down the lineup," said Head Coach Cam Ellsworth. "I am thrilled to advance to next week."
The second seeded Cadets will play host to third seeded Babson on Feb 25 at 7 PM in the NEHC Semifinals.
