NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University men's basketball team saw three players rain down double-digits, as the Cadets routed Lesley University, 91-47, in a non-conference clash in Andrews Hall on Wednesday evening.
Both
Owen Liss (West Suffield, Conn.) and
Kohlby Murray (Fair Haven, Vt.) tallied 22 points apiece, while
Niklas Nordberg (Fairfield, Pa.) drilled in three treys to finish with 12 points in just seven minutes off the bench. The trio combined for a perfect 8-8 clip from long range, and 23-32 from the floor.
Liss got the ball rolling early, as the Cadets struck first off a turnover on Lesley's opening possession, leading to a Liss jumper just 27 seconds into the contest. Liss added another jumper to overcome the Lynx's lone lead. Lesley knotted the contest up, 6-all, before the Cadets' offense exploded behind a Murray trey and an emphatic Liss dunk.
The Lynx kept close, hanging within single-digits until Norwich passed the double-digit mark halfway through the opening stanza. Liss handed the Cadets their largest lead of the half, on back-to-back jumpers in the closing 13 seconds to grant Norwich a 16-point lead at the break.
Liss picked right back up in the second, logging back-to-back baskets that was capped off by helping on a Murray triple on a half-opening 7-0 run. Lesley kept Norwich within 22 at the 8:43 mark of the half, but the Cadets ended the contest on a 39-7 run, which comprised of Nordberg's dominant 12-point stretch.
Norwich thrived in points off turnovers (27-4) and points in the paint (54-20), while outpacing the Lynx in fast break points (25-10). Nordberg led the charge off the bench, as Norwich outscored Lesley's bench, 31-20.
The Cadets will look ahead to Saturday, Dec. 9, travelling to Anna Maria College for their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in Paxton, Mass. Norwich will then return home for a Dec. 12 duel with in-state foe Vermont State University Randolph.
