Football: Coach Murnyack steps down after 13 years as head football coach

"The time has come for me to relinquish the reins of the football program. Every day I have given my everything to do what I could to help the program be successful.

I love this place, I believe in what we do for students, and I feel like I had an impact. Thank you for everything that you have given to me and my family. Northfield has been my home for 21 of the past 26 years. I loved my time here and forged some great relationships.

During my time at Norwich, I worked with many talented players and coaches. Together we have been fortunate to help the program reach levels of success previously unseen. While at Norwich I have had the opportunity to work with some great people such as long-time athletic director Tony Mariano and President Schneider, who both hired me in 2011, all the way up to 2023 with both President Anarumo and current athletic director Ed Hockenbury.

I have been very fortunate to be a part of so many great moments during my time at Norwich. We had the program's only two trips to the NCAA playoffs and multiple bowl games. The dramatic walk-off field goal in 2019 during Norwich's 200th anniversary celebration where we defeated rival Coast Guard during homecoming. The crowd was overflowing, we had a ton of alumni back on campus, and it was simply an amazing ending to that game. All the great rivalry games filled with such overwhelming tradition represented what college football is all about. These are some of the great memories I will take with me. But, the best part of coaching here has been the many great players I have had the chance to see come through this program. I am proud of our accomplishments as a program but more importantly proud of the accomplishments of our players and alumni. I am grateful for having had the opportunity to help develop tomorrow's leaders. These are just some of the great memories I will take with me.

Norwich University has always been a special place and I have been privileged to have the opportunity to lead the football program for the last 13 years. I will assess what is best for my family and make decisions that are consistent with that moving forward. Now, I look ahead to the next challenge."

Thank you,
Coach Mark Murnyack
