NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University rifle team competed at home for the first time this season, shooting past the John Jay Bloodhounds in a conference match-up.
The Cadets would take the win with an aggregate score of 4203-4014 over John Jay. The result places Norwich at 1-2 in NCAA competition and improves them to 2-1 in conference action.
Cadet shooters took four of the top five overall individual scores on the day led by
Aiden Burris' 1103 aggregate score. Danny Canning of John Jay finished second on the day with a 1096. The two swapped spots in disciplines as Burris won the smallbore competition with a 546 to Canning's 526. Canning took the air rifle portion with a high of 570 over Burris' 556.
Norwich filled out the remainder of the top five as freshmen
Ben Kelley scored 1039 and
Evan Elders tallied 1034 finished 3rd and 4
th  while sophomore
Brady Simmons' 1027 was good enough for 5
th.
The Cadet shooters with return to action after holiday break as they will travel to Cambridge, Mass. in a rematch against the MIT Engineers on Saturday, Feb. 4.
