Women's Soccer: Cadets Swim Past Sharks on Cornellier's Late Goal

BOSTON, Mass.- The Norwich Women's Soccer team rounded out their schedule Tuesday night with a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Simmons.

Neither side found the scoresheet in the opening frame, as the Cadets held a slight edge in shots (7-5) with three shots on target to Simmons's two. Early in the second half, it would be the Sharks who took the first bite with a goal from Maria Nikolakopoulos. With that goal, Simmons would generate momentum tallying four shots in a three-minute span trying to double the lead. However, against that momentum, Bella Roy (Weare, N.H.) would take a deep shot, with no defender anywhere close, that would find the net tying the contest.

The Sharks would put two more shots on target looking to regain the lead, but Rebecca Karis (Fayetteville, N.C.) held the fort making two saves in the half, five overall. Eventually, the Cadets would work the ball into their offensive end and earn a corner kick, where Lindsey Duggan (Belmont, N.H.) would find Harleigh Cornellier (Tyngsborough, Mass.) for a header by the right post finding the bottom left corner, breaking the tie in the 76th minute, and held until the final whistle.

"We didn't make things easy on ourselves tonight, but I'm proud of the team for battling through and getting the win," said Head Coach Jared Cipriano. "It was great to see some individuals really step up and make big impacts tonight when we needed them. We made a lot of positive steps forward this season and it's great to end it with back-to-back wins."

With the back-to-back wins to round out the season, the Cadets surpassed their win total from the previous season.
