NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Division II team at University of New Haven fell to Division III Cadets in a battle game ending in a 10-7 win for Norwich University on Sunday afternoon at the Graveyard Pitch.
New Haven scored in the opening minutes of the match, which the Cadets responded to with a breakaway try by freshman flanker Taina Negron, her first for Norwich. The Cadets received a yellow card at the end of the first half, with strong defense being spearheaded by junior center, Shannon Hobbs, junior hooker, Rachel Kempf, and junior flanker, Rebecca Klements. UNH held the lead at the end of the opening stanza, 7-5.
In the second half, Norwich junior wing Kate Desautels responded with her first try of the season, with a set-up pass from sophomore flanker Joey Abrantes to secure the win for Norwich.
The Cadets will take on Adrian College at a neutral location at Mount Saint Mary's in Emmitsburg, Md., on Oct. 14 at 10:00 a.m.
