PAXTON, Mass. - The Norwich University men's basketball team suffered a 76-69 misstep at Anna Maria College on Thursday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match-up at the Fuller Center.
The Cadets saw three players log double-figures, led by
Joe Joe DuBrul's (Shelburne, Vt.) 19-point performance on 9-15 shooting.
Chris Hough (Bloomfield, Conn.) added 14 points off the bench, while
Jalen Olivero (Holyoke, Mass.) led the starting contingency with 10 points.
After a quick 4-0 spurt for the AMCATS on their first two possessions, the Cadets' offense sprouted to life, courtesy of an 8-0 run on a pair of treys from
Kohlby Murray (Fair Haven, Vt.) and Olivero and a layup from
Donovan Lewis Jr. (Savannah, Ga.). Despite three occasions throughout the opening half that saw Anna Maria reclaim its lead, Norwich rolled in the closing minutes, with
Owen Liss (West Suffield, Conn.) laying one in just before the halftime buzzer to give the Cadets a nine-point edge.
The second half was not as kind to the Cadets, as Anna Maria emerged from the locker room on a 6-0 run to trim Norwich's lead to one. Despite the AMCATS maintaining the lead for a majority of the second half, the Cadets remained steadfast, tying things up at 68-all with three minutes left.
Anna Maria's defense would keep Norwich in check, however, with the AMCATS closing out the tilt on an 8-1 run to claim victory.
Sean Zabari led the AMCATS with 18 points, while Gabe Armstead and Trevian Grenon posted 14 points and 11 points, respectively.
Norwich will look to bounce back in dramatic fashion on Saturday, traveling to West Hartford, Conn., to duel the #1-ranked and undefeated University of Saint Joseph Blue Jays. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m.
