Football: Cadets fall short at undefeated Endicott

BEVERLY, Mass. - The Norwich football team fell short on the road at undefeated Endicott, 26-13, in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at Hempstead Stadium.

The Gulls controlled the tone early offensive, taking a 13-0 lead into the halftime intermission.  Norwich would break through the scoreless drought just minutes into the third quarter, after a nine-play drive resulted in a Justin Bryant (Eliot, Maine) one-yard run that was capped off by a successful Zach Buchy (Suffolk, Va.) kick to get Norwich back within striking distance.

Endicott would extend their lead in the fourth quarter on back-to-back touchdowns, before the Cadets attempted a final comeback with an Andrew White (Walpole, Mass.) touchdown with a minute and a half left that resulted in the final.

Mitchell Theal (Elma, N.Y.) was nearly automatic, throwing for 22-31 to finish with 193 yards and one touchdown.  Nate Parady (Saint Albans, Vt.) led the rushing game with 62 yards, while Trevor Chase (Eliot, Maine) and Tykell Stewart (Locust Grove, Ga.) tallied 69 and 66 receiving yards, respectively.  Ethan Amburn (Suffield, Conn.) was a monster on the defensive end, tallying 13 tackles while breaking up a pass.

Clayton Marengi logged 175 yards on 16-24 passing for Endicott, with Yavier Cosme-Diaz putting together a career day on the ground behind 14 carries for 107 yards.

The Cadets will kick off New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference play in their next outing, returning home for a 1 p.m. duel on Saturday, Oct. 1, in the Little Army-Navy Game against the Coast Guard Academy.  The game will also serve as a key event for Parent & Family Weekend.
