NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich women's rugby team snagged their first win of the 2022 campaign on Saturday, Sept. 17, as part of the Homecoming Weekend festivities, cruising to a 34-13 win over Castleton.
Freshman Carlyan Vigbedor opened up the gates for the Cadets, posting Norwich's first points in her first-ever rugby match.
Senior
Morgan Butcher scored three tries to lead all scorers, while classmate Megan Sacripanti tallied two tries.
Sophomore
Shannon Hobbs went 2-5 on her conversion kicks.
"Overall, an impressive start to the season with six rugby debutants in the starting lineup and three more coming in from the bench," said Head Coach
Austin Hall after the win.
The Cadets will enjoy a long stretch off from action after their season-opening win, not seeing a foe until an Oct. 8 showdown against New England College on Norwich's rugby pitch. Game time is slated for 11:00 a.m.
