Box Score LYNDONVILLE, Vt. - The Norwich University baseball team traveled to take on Northern Vermont University-Lyndon on Tuesday afternoon.
The Hornets topped the Cadets 10-2 in a nine inning non-conference matchup.
NVU-Lyndon broke open a scoreless game with two runs in the second inning and two in the third to open up a 4-0 lead. The Hornets then plated three runs in the fifth and one in the sixth before a Cadet rally in the top of the seventh.
Freshman catcher Tristan Carey (Crown Point, N.Y.) delivered a sacrifice fly and senior first baseman Hayden Roberge (Middlesex, Vt.) added an RBI groundout to cut the score to 8-2.
The Hornets added two insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh en route to the 10-2 win.
Sophomore Timber Russell (Randolph, Vt.) took the loss on the mound for NU to fall to 2-1 on the year. He allowed four earned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out three batters.
The Cadets fall to 11-8 on the season while the Hornets improve to 4-14. Norwich is next in action on Saturday, April 9th for a doubleheader at Johnson & Wales (RI). Those conference matchups are set for 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
