Box Score 2 NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University softball team honored its lone senior Maggie Rasmussen (Kingston, N.H.) in the middle of a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader vs. Johnson & Wales on Friday afternoon at the NU Softball Field.
Sophomore Laura Deaton (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) launched her first collegiate home run with a moonshot blast in the bottom of the first inning to tie the game up at 1-1, but JWU (32-6, 13-3 GNAC) scored the next 12 runs en route to the 13-1 five-inning victory. The Wildcats also took the nightcap, 22-5 in five innings to complete the sweep.
Deaton also went 2-for-3 with a RBI and sophomore Annika Beebe (Marianna, Fla.) also notched two hits and a run scored to help lead the offense.
Freshmen Maren McGinn (Georgia, Vt.) and Rachel Kempf (Warwick, R.I.), as well as Rasmussen each tallied RBIs in the second game.
Freshman Charlotte Charbonneau (West Springfield, Mass.) had a triple and run scored. The Cadets posted nine hits in the second game, but Johnson & Wales scored 18 runs in the first inning to sprint ahead and never look back.
Rasmussen concludes her four-year career playing in 59 games. She received the USS Montpelier Association Award, which is given to a graduating senior to be commissioned in the Navy who distinguished themselves through scholastic achievement, leadership, and excellence of character.
Rasmussen will graduate with a degree in Physics and will be commissioning into the United States Navy as an Ensign Surface Nuclear Warfare officer.
Norwich concluded the 2022 season with an 8-22 record and a 1-15 mark in GNAC play.
