Box Score 2 WORCESTER, Mass. – The Norwich University baseball team concluded its regular season slate with a Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader at Anna Maria on Friday afternoon.
The AMCATS swept the Cadets with an 11-0 win in game one and a 12-3 win in game two.
In game one, the AMCATS rallied for nine runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 9-0 lead. Anna Maria added two runs in the bottom of the fifth to extend the lead to 11-0. Freshman left fielder Jakob Hayes (Arlington, Texas) posted two hits on the game, both singles.
In game two, Anna Maria jumped out to another early lead, this time 3-0 after one inning. Norwich plated its first run of the game in the top of inning two on an RBI single by Hayes to right field. Freshman third baseman Brock Carpenter (East Berlin, Penn.) then stepped to the plate and drove a single to center, plating two runs and tying the game 3-3.
The AMCATS plated two more runs in the bottom of the second and three in the third for an 8-3 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, Anna Maria scored three more runs to open up an 11-3 advantage. The AMCATS added an insurance run in the fifth for a 12-3 lead.
Carpenter and sophomore center fielder Tyler Callahan (Arlington, Mass.) both had two hits apiece in the loss.
Norwich concludes the regular season at 16-16 overall and 7-11 in GNAC play while Anna Maria closes at 23-15 and 13-5 in-conference. The Cadets' season comes to a close with the road sweep.
