HARTFORD, Conn. – The Norwich University softball team dropped a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader on Sunday afternoon to Univ. of St. Joseph (Conn.). 

Norwich (8-20, 1-13 GNAC North) led 3-0 in the second game, but USJ came storming back to score 11 unanswered runs to win 11-3 in six innings. The Cadets also fell 8-0 in five innings in the first game. 

The Cadets scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning with Sydney Wood (Proctor, Vt.) singling back up the middle to score Ruthie Davis (Hinsdale, N.H.) from third base to highlight the inning. Wood and Maren McGinn (Georgia, Vt.) also scored in the inning. 

However, USJ (18-17, 8-8 GNAC South) got one back in the bottom of the fourth and then blew the game open in the bottom of the fifth with eight runs to take a commanding lead.   

Norwich committed 10 errors defensively in the series, leading to 12 unearned runs on the day. 

The Cadets return home to the NU Softball Field to close out the 2022 season, hosting Johnson & Wales on Friday, April 29 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
