Box Score 2 BOSTON – The Norwich University softball team dropped a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader to defending league champion Emmanuel (Mass.) at Roberto Clemente Field on Saturday afternoon.
Emmanuel (4-8. 2-0 GNAC) scored nine runs in the bottom of the first inning behind two home runs to cruise to a 14-0 win in the opener. The Saints' bats stayed hot in the second game to win again, 8-0 and sweep the GNAC twinbill in impressive fashion.
Norwich (5-7, 0-2 GNAC) had two hits each from freshman Maren McGinn (Georgia, Vt.) and sophomore Annika Beebe (Marianna, Fla.) to lead the offense on the day.
Rachel Kempf (Warwick, R.I.) had the other hit for the Cadets.
Allison Northup (Westerly, R.I.) took the loss in Game 1, while Beebe took the loss in Game 2.
Norwich will return home to the NU Softball Field to play its home opener on Sunday, Apr. 3 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. as the Cadets take on Rivier in a GNAC doubleheader.
