BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Norwich University women's rugby team compiled a 2-2 record at the Univ. of New England 7s Tournament on Saturday.
Norwich (5-4) defeated Colby-Sawyer and Univ. of New England B team, while also falling to Bowdoin and the UNE A side.
Senior Anita DiMento (Carbondale, Colo.) scored five tries to lead the Norwich offense on the day. Audriauna Greeno (Mapleville, R.I.), Leah Fuess (Northfield, Mass.), Laurice Atole and Kathy Escobar (Providence, R.I.) also touched down for tries for the Cadets.
Norwich opened the day with a 39-5 loss to Bowdoin in pool play. DiMento scored the lone try.
The Cadets followed up with a 15-10 win over Colby-Sawyer with tries from DiMento, Greeno and Fuess.
Norwich closed pool play with a 2-1 record after defeating UNE B 20-0. DiMento scored two tries, while Atole and Escobar also scored for the Cadets.
Norwich earned the No. 2 seed from its pool for a berth in the semifinals, but the Cadets fell 57-5 to UNE, the top team out of its pool. DiMento scored the lone try for NU.
The third-place game was not played between Castleton and Norwich.
Norwich closes the spring 7s season next weekend at the Bowdoin 7s Tournament.
