Box Score 2 FORT PIERCE, Fla. - The Norwich University baseball team continued its Spring Break trip with a doubleheader against Wilkes on Sunday.
The Colonels swept the Cadets with a 7-4 win in game one and a 13-0 win in game two.
In game one, Norwich plated three runs in the top of the second inning to break open a scoreless game. Senior catcher Connor McGee (Wakefield, R.I.) scored on a passed ball while freshman Brock Carpenter (East Berlin, Pa.) delivered a two-run single for the 3-0 lead.
Wilkes rallied for two runs in the bottom of the third, three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to take a 7-3 edge.
McGee hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh to make it 7-4, but that is as close as NU would get.
Senior Tanner Raymond (Southbury, Conn.) started on the mound for Norwich, allowing five runs (three earned) on seven hits. He fanned five batters and falls to 0-1 on the season.
In game two, Wilkes got off to a hot start with four runs in the top of the first inning, five in the second and four in the third for a 13-0 lead. The Cadets were unable to score as sophomore center fielder Tyler Callahan (Arlington, Mass.), senior designated hitter Michael Koytikh (Melrose, Mass.), Carpenter and junior third baseman Ryland Richardson (Windsor, Vt.) all collected hits.
The Cadets sit at 4-2 on the season and are next in action on Tuesday against Drew. Game times are set for Noon and 3:00 p.m. at Lawnwood Park in Fort Pierce, Florida.
