Box Score 2 NASHUA, N.H. - The Norwich University baseball team opened its Great Northeast Athletic Conference schedule with a doubleheader at Rivier University on Saturday.
The Cadets swept the Raiders with a 5-1 win in game one and an 11-2 victory in game two.
In game one, sophomore Matt Ingraffia (Lake Grove, N.Y.) tossed an absolute gem on the mound, delivering a complete game two-hitter. He fanned 10 batters while allowing just one earned run and one walk. He improves to 3-0 on the season.
The Cadets opened the scoring in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by sophomore center fielder Tyler Callahan (Arlington, Mass.) for the 1-0 lead. In the top of the fourth, senior designated hitter Michael Koytikh (Melrose, Mass.) knocked an RBI groundout to second base to expand the lead to 2-0. Callahan then hit his second RBI single of the game to stretch the lead to 3-0.
Rivier scored its lone run in the bottom of the fourth inning before junior second baseman Abel Oropeza (Whittier, Calif.) hit a two-run single up the middle to make it 5-1.
In game two, Norwich scored at least one run in every inning en route to the 11-2 win. Senior third baseman Hayden Roberge (Middlesex, Vt.) went three-for-four with one RBI and two runs scored. Koytikh stayed hot at the plate with two hits, one RBI and one run scored. Freshman left fielder Jakob Hayes (Arlington, Texas) went three-for-four with one RBI and two runs scored.
Callahan, senior catcher Connor McGee (Wakefield, Vt.), junior right fielder PJ Morales (Bakersfield, Calif.), sophomore second baseman Rafael Font (York, Penn.), freshman first baseman Ryan Miller (Westhampton, N.Y.) and senior pinch-hitter Hunter Lavigne (Charlton, Mass.) all had one RBI in the win.
Freshman Ben Emero (Medway, Mass.) picked up the win to improve to 3-0 on the year. He threw five innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks. He struck out five batters.
The Cadets improve to 11-3 on the season and 2-0 in conference play while the Raiders fall to 1-10 and 0-2 in GNAC play. Norwich is next in action on Wednesday, March 30th for a home GNAC twin bill against Colby-Sawer. Game times are set for 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
