Box Score 2 NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Norwich University softball team split for the third straight day to close out its spring break trip at the Fastpitch Dreams Classic.
Norwich (3-3) came from behind to beat Dean College 8-5 in its opener on Friday morning, before falling 11-2 to Fitchburg State in six innings in its second game of the day.
Sophomore Annika Beebe (Marianna, Fla.) continued to lead from both sides of the plate, picking up her third win of the season with a complete-game victory in the circle and striking out 11. Beebe also went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored to help pace the Cadets' offense.
Freshman Kennedy White and sophomore Laura Deaton (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) each notched two hits as well as Norwich rallied from a 3-1 deficit with a big five-run fifth inning to take the victory.
Sophomore Julia Vawter (Pelham, N.H.) and Maggie Rasmussen (Kingston, N.H.) each notched RBI hits as well for Norwich.
Norwich outhit Dean 10-7 in the game with seven different batters recording hits.
In the second game, Fitchburg State scored in every inning but the first as the Falcons outhit Norwich 12-5 to improve to 2-3 on the season.
Sophomore Liliana Rolfe (Plainville, Mass.) had two hits, while Beebe had another hit and two RBI to take over the team lead on the season with six. Deaton and Kennedy White had a hit and a run scored each.
Allison Northup (Westerly, R.I.) started the game, throwing four innings and giving up five earned runs.
Fitchburg State's offense was highlighted by a three-run home run by Molly Grass in the fourth inning that gave the Falcons a 5-0 lead.
Norwich returns home to Vermont this weekend. The Cadets will next be in action on Saturday, March 26 when they travel to Mitchell College for a non-conference doubleheader in Connecticut.
