BOSTON, Mass. – Head Men's Basketball Coach Paul Booth earned the 350th victory of his collegiate head coaching career, and Donovan Lewis Jr. (Savannah, Ga.) knocked down all of his free throws as the Cadets downed Emmanuel 61-60 on Wednesday evening.
Lewis Jr. had 20 points in the contest to lead the Cadets, and Jalen Olivero (Holyoke, Mass.) scored 17 points, while pulling down six rebounds and dishing out four assists. Kyle Booth (Northfield, Vt.) added eight points, while Kohlby Murray (Fair Haven, Vt.) and Samuel-Noah Osarenkhoe (Stockholm, Sweden) both scored six points.
In the opening 8:41 of the matchup, Norwich jumped out to a 16-4 lead as they took early control of the contest. The Saints were able to battle back, outscoring the Cadets 21-8 in the closing minutes of the first half, with Emmanuel taking a 25-24 lead into the halftime break.
After trading the lead back and forth in the opening 10 minutes of the second half, Emmanuel jumped out to a 52-46 lead with 6:42 left in regulation. Norwich then went on an 11-point run, a run that saw them retake the lead off a Murray three pointer. The Cadets used the run to take a five-point advantage with 2:22 remaining.
The Saints did not back down however as they knocked down a three pointer immediately after a timeout. After Olivero responded with a jumper for the Cadets, Zach Crisafulli knocked down a three to cut the Norwich lead down to one.
With 28 seconds left on the clock, Ted Weber made a layup to give Emmanuel a 60-59 advantage. Norwich had the ball with two seconds left when a foul by the Saints put Donovan Lewis Jr. at the line, where he knocked down both shots to give the Cadets the 61-60 victory.
Norwich (11-10, 6-7 GNAC) host Dean on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 3 pm, prior to the start of the contest, the Cadets will honor their seniors during a Senior Day ceremony. Rivier will then come to town on Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 5 pm.
