Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – The Norwich University women's basketball team was down six at the half, but an impressive 23-point run in the second half, guided the Saints past the Cadets. 68-35 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.
Haley Brewster (Virginia Beach, Va.) scored 18 points while bringing down 10 rebounds for her eighth double-double of her freshman campaign. Maren McGinn (Georgia, Vt.) added four points while grabbing 5 boards.
In the first half Norwich was able to hang in with the Saints, playing them to a 12-12 draw with 2:12 remaining in the first quarter, Emmanuel created separation with Amarii Faust and Kiera Eubanks both hitting shots. The Saints held the 16-12 lead after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Norwich again battled. The Cadets trailed by eight with 4:07 remaining, but the Cadets McGinn grabbed a board on the offensive end in the final seconds of the half and put it back up for a layup, putting the Cadets within six at the half.
After trading jumpers early on in the quarter, the Saints went on a 23-point run over 9:27 on their way to creating a cushion for the lead and the eventual win.
Norwich (8-11, 6-6 GNAC) will host Dean for a key GNAC matchup on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 1 pm with four games to play in the regular season. They will then be visited by Rivier on Tuesday Feb. 15, before facing Regis on the road Thursday, Feb. 17. Norwich will host their Senior Day on Saturday, Feb. 19 against the University of St. Joseph.
