Men's Basketball: Cadets Comeback in Second Half to Down Rivier

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University men's basketball team picked up their third straight win on Tuesday evening earning a 68-64 victory over Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) rival Rivier.

Donovan Lewis Jr. (Savannah, Ga.) shot above 50 percent, shooting either 50 percent or better in 21 games this season. Kohlby Murray (Fair Haven, Vt.)added 18 points while knocking down 4-of-7 attempts from the field wile dishing out four assists.  Kyle Booth (Northfield, Vt.) registered a double-double, scoring 10 points while pulling down 10 boards off the glass.

After Rivier opened the contest scoring four points, Murray knocked down a three-pointer, with the Cadets trailing 4-3.  The Raiders then jumped out to an 11-5 lead but, Norwich was able to once again cut the deficit to one.

With things knotted up at 18-18 with 4:59 remaining, Miles Gillette knocked down a jumper sparking a run for the Raiders to take a 31-23 lead into the halftime break.

After trading points back and forth in the opening 6:50 of play in the second half, Murray gave Norwich a spark by knocking down a three-point jumper with 12:39 remaining in regulation, and Jalen Olivero (Holyoke, Mass.) knocked down a free throw cut the Raider lead down to five.

Nesta Roberts then hit a jumper, but Booth followed up with a three-pointer of his own and Jaydon Cousin (Savannah, Ga.) knocked down four points to cut the deficit to three with 8:38 remaining on the clock.

Norwich finally took a 53-52 lead with 5:34 remaining after Lewis Jr. found his way to the basket for a lay-in. The Raiders were able to even things up at 55-55 with 4:05 left in regulation but the Cadets immediately took back the lead with Booth knocking down a three.

The Raiders were down by three with 1:04 remaining but Lewis Jr. made a free throw attempt and Olivero hit a jumper to put the game out of reach.

Norwich (13-10, 8-7 GNAC) will travel to Nashua, N.H. on Thursday, Feb. 17 for a 7 pm rematch with Rivier.  The Cadets will then round out the regular season slate on Saturday, Feb. 19 when the No.5-ranked University of St. Joseph Blue Jays come to town.
