Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University men's ice hockey team dropped a 2-0 decision to No. 6 Hobart College in its regular season finale on Saturday afternoon at Kreitzberg Arena.
Hobart (18-4-2, 13-2-2 NEHC) scored late in the first period and then added an empty-net goal to secure the victory and its first New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) regular season title.
Norwich (12-5-5, 9-5-4 NEHC) will hit the road for the NEHC Quarterfinals next weekend when they travel to on No. 4 seed Babson at 7 p.m. at the Babson Skating Center.
Hobart's Austin Mourar followed his own shot and jammed the puck home from behind the net to give the Statesmen the only lead they would need. PA Martineau and Christian Duvall picked up the assists on the goal.
Hobart added an empty-net goal with 1:01 left in the third period after Shane Shell picked up a loose puck in the Norwich defensive zone and deposited the puck into the back of the net to seal the game.
Senior goalie Drennen Atherton (Winter Haven, Fla.) made 29 saves to fall to 7-2-4 on the season. Hobart senior Liam Lascelle made 23 saves to earn the shutout.
Prior to the game, Norwich honored eight seniors in a special pre-game ceremony.
