Women's Hockey: Elmira trips up Norwich again, 2-1

PINE VALLEY, N.Y. - The Norwich University women's ice hockey fell for the second straight time to its budding New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) rival Elmira College on Friday night at the Murray Athletic Center.

Norwich (18-6-0, 15-2-0 NEHC) fought valiantly, but ultimately dropped a 2-1 decision to No. 3-ranked Elmira. With the loss, the Cadets had their 10 straight NEHC regular season title run snapped by the conference newcomer. 

Senior defenseman Emma O'Neill (Hamburg, N.Y.) continue her blistering offensive streak, scoring Norwich's lone goal of the game, but it wasn't enough as the Soaring Eagles scored midway through the third period to clinch the win and their fifth straight conference regular season title dating back to their days in the United College Hockey Conference (UCHC).

Senior goalie Alexa Berg (West Fargo, N.D.) stopped 27 shots, but was saddled with the loss.

Norwich will close out the regular season on Saturday at 4 p.m. with its first-ever trip to William Smith. 

The Cadets have locked up the No. 2 seed for the NEHC Tournament, they will host the winner of a first round matchup on Saturday, Feb. 19.
