NORTHFIELD, Vt.- The Norwich University Men's Soccer team lost in heartbreaking fashion Saturday afternoon at Sabine Field to Emmanuel in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Quarterfinals 1-1 after extra time with Emmanuel winning 3-1 on penalty kicks.
The Saints came out flying as they got on the board just over a minute into the match on a goal by senior
Alec Erskine (Coventry, Conn.). Later in the first half senior
Joseph Thongsythavong (Salem, Mass) got the Cadets on the board in the 34
th minute which gives him 143 points in his collegiate career, a new program record. Thongsythavong also posted 10 shots, five on goal.
Emmanuel withstood a barrage of Cadet shots as the final total was 24-8 (9-4 on goal) with graduate student Goalkeeper
Vincent Conelli (West Hartford, Conn.) standing tall. In the penalty kick shootout freshman keeper
Maddox Pierce (Meriden, Conn.) came in and shut the door.
This concludes the 2022 season for the Norwich University Men's Soccer team with their record standing at 11-3-3 (10-2 GNAC).
