BEVERLY Mass.- The Norwich University Men's Ice Hockey team opened their regular season with a 3-0 win over Endicott Saturday night at Raymond Bourque Arena.
The Cadets pressed the Gulls early which paid dividends when junior
Brendon Jones (Pembroke, Mass) got Norwich on the board seven minutes in with
Ryan Poorman (Phoenixville Pa.) and
Patrick O'Neal (Indiana, Pa.).
O'Neal would tally his second assist of the game as the Cadets converted on their first powerplay of the season with time winding down in the opening frame. He set up sophomore
Clark Kerner (Kansas City, Kan.) to give Norwich the 2-0 lead after the first period.
In the second period the Cadet powerplay was successful again thanks to senior
Noah Williams (Cortland, N.Y.) with his second point of the game after also receiving the secondary assist on the Kerner goal. Norwich's powerplay would finish the game going two for four.
In goal
Drennan Atherton (Winter Haven, Fla.) stood tall stopping all 25 shots he faced for his fifth career shutout. The Cadets will look to build on their season opening win when they visit Johnson & Wales Friday night November 4. Puck drop is set for 7 PM.
