NORTHFIELD, Vt.- It was an afternoon to remember for several members of the Norwich University Men's Soccer team as they continue to march towards the GNAC playoffs with an 8-0 victory over Colby-Sawyer Wednesday afternoon at Sabine Field.
The Cadets struck early and often as senior
Joesph Thongsythavong (Salem, Mass) as he headed a feed from
Matteo Iagrossi (Schenectady, N.Y.) just 44 seconds in. Thongsythavong would go on to score three more with goals in the 23rd, 53
rd and 59
th minute along with three assists. The four spot puts him second in program history with 54 goals and needs four goals to set the new career goal mark. Additionally, Thongsythavong is now second in career points with 127.
Iagrossi would score another goal in the 60
th minute but the story was senior
Amerle Nemeye (Burlington, Vt.). Nemeye earned a secondary assist on that tally giving him 30 career assists which is a new Norwich record for assists in a career passing Chris Rivet and Ryan Boynton notching two assists on the day.
The Cadets defense was stellar as well only allowing two total shots, only one of which on goal and other contributors include
Oleksandr Kharchuk (Ukraine) with an assist and
Chris Schult (Elmwood Park, N.J.) on a penalty kick.
Next up for Norwich is hosting Albertus Magnus for Senior Day at Sabine Field. Kick off is set for 7 PM.
