NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University women's basketball team earned a key Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory against Rivier Sunday afternoon at Muldoon Gymnasium, 83-73.

Haley Brewster (Virginia Beach, Va.) scored 22 points while shooting 60 percent from the field and hitting 9-of-10 shots from the line, while pulling in 10 rebounds for her seventh double-double or better game of the year. Hannah Stitely (Westminster, Md.) added 12 points while once again shooting over 50 percent from the field. Silas Bernier (Jaffrey, N.H.) scored 11 points and Maren McGinn (Georgia, Vt.) also added 13 points in the matchup.

McGinn opened the scoring at the beginning of the contest and followed up on the defensive end with a block that that stopped an attempt by Hannah Muchemore. With the score tied 10-10 with 3:55 remaining, Brewster scored five straight points to take the lead. Norwich led 20-19 at the end of the first.

Bernier then opened the second quarter with layups on back to back possessions down the floor, and sparked the Cadets to jump back out to a five-point lead. Norwich outscored the Raiders 23-14 in the second quarter while shooting 57.9 percent as a team from the field. Norwich then took a 10-point lead into the halftime break.

Norwich would not look back, using that advantage as they continued to hit shots at a high rate, keeping the Raiders at bay on their way to the victory.

Norwich (7-7, 6-2 GNAC) will play on Tuesday, Feb. 1 when they host Elms in Andrews Hall for a 7:30 pm tip off. They will then travel to Colby-Sawyer on Thursday, Feb. 3 in a GNAC contest against the Chargers.
