Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University women's soccer team finally got its 2021 season underway after two postponements earlier in the week.
The Cadets battled Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC)-rival Saint Joseph's (Maine) for 90 minutes, but the Monks ultimately prevailed with a 2-0 victory.
Senior goalkeeper Kim Watt (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) made 13 saves to help the Cadets' stymie the SJC offense, but the Monks had a little bit too much fire power and eventually broke the Norwich defensive line twice.
Madison Michaud had a goal and an assist to lead the Monks' offense. She tallied in the 19th minute to give SJC the lead that it would never relinquish. Claudia Janelle picked up the assist on the first Monk goal.
SJC (1-1, 1-0 GNAC) added to the lead in the 75th minute with a goal by Alicen Burnham off an assist from Michaud.
Norwich sophomore Sarah Rucci (West Boylston, Mass.) led the Cadets with two shots.
Norwich (0-1, 0-1 GNAC) will to get its first win of the season on Wednesday, Sept. 8 when it hosts Castleton University at 7 p.m. on Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium.
