Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University women's soccer team fell 5-0 to Johnson & Wales University on Saturday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Sabine Field.
Johnson & Wales' Hayley Viebrock scored a hat trick, while Olivia Cairrao added two assists to lead the defending GNAC champions' offense in the victory.
JWU (6-3-1, 3-0-1) outshot the Cadets 37-4 in the game. Senior goalkeeper Kim Watt (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) was peppered throughout he first half, making 10 saves in the opening 45 minutes before being relived by Rebecca Karis (Fayetteville, N.C.) in the second half. Karis made five saves on six shots on goal in her half of action.
Jillian Patria (Rindge, N.H.) and Harleigh Cornellier (Tyngsborough, Mass.) each recorded shots on goal for the Cadets.
JWU raced out to a 4-0 halftime lead with Viebrock scoring three straight goals in the 13th, 20th and 28th minute.
Norwich travels to Elms on Tuesday for a GNAC contest at 7 p.m., which is the start of a three-game road trip. Norwich will return home to Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 5 p.m. vs. Univ. of St. Joseph (Conn.).
