Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt – The Norwich University volleyball team fell in straight-sets Friday afternoon in Andrews Hall facing off against the defending Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) champion, Johnson & Wales, 3-0 (26-24, 25-17, 25-20).
The Cadets Kathryn Farnum (North Andover, Mass.) led the team with 10 kills while adding six digs and was a perfect 12-for-12 in service receptions. Julia Schroeder (Victorville, Calif.) added six service aces and a pair of kills for Norwich, while Sarah Farnum (North Andover, Mass.) added 16 assists in the match.
Defensively Laura Farnum (North Andover, Mass.) led Norwich with 17 digs, while Sarah Farnum and Addison Hall (Apple Valley, Calif.) combined for two blocks in the game.
Norwich (5-3, 0-1 GNAC) took the first point of the match, before the Wildcats were able to rattle off a 7-1 run, going up by five points early in the first set, before the Cadets would come back to tie the set at 7-7.
The Cadets were able to take a 21-18 lead late in the first set before Johnson & Wales took the next five points to take a 23-21 advantage. Norwich responded by taking a 24-23 lead. The Wildcats would then win the next three points to take the set 26-24.
Johnson & Wales (5-4, 2-0 GNAC) jumped out in the second set to a 10-2 lead, before the Cadets earned the next eight points before the Wildcats took advantage of an 11-2 run to win the set.
With the Cadets down in the third set 20-15, Norwich and Johnson & Wales traded points until the Wildcats took the set 25-20.
Norwich will be back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 6:30 p.m. when they travel to face conference foe Regis College in Weston, Mass. They will then travel to Boston to take on Simmons in GNAC action Friday night.
