Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich volleyball team fell to Plymouth State 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-16) in non-conference action Wednesday night in Andrews Hall.
The Cadets with the loss move to 4-2, while Plymouth State (7-0) remains undefeated on the early season. The Cadets' Sarah Farnum (North Andover, Mass.) earned 23 assists in the contest.
Kathryn Farnum (North Andover, Mass.) had nine kills in the match and freshman Abby Kanaga (Apopka, Fla.) added six kills while hitting an outstanding .667 and registering a block assist defensively.
Defensively Olivia Brown (Rye, N.H.) and Julia Schroeder (Victorville, Calif.) led the Cadets with nine digs each. Maggie McNeil (Gilford, N.H.) had seven digs.
Norwich opened the game trading points with the Panthers before an eight-point run by Plymouth State gave them a 14-8 advantage. The Cadets closed the gap to four but were not able to regain the advantage in the first set.
Plymouth State and Norwich again would trade points to open the second set. With the game tied at 10 apiece the Panthers then put together another 11-2 run. The Cadets responded while trailing 18-11 to close the gap in the second set again three, before Plymouth State's Lilli Stogner earned a kill to close out the set.
The Panthers closed out the contest with a five-point run to finish the third set 25-16.
The Cadets will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 18 with a trip to play Salem State. They will then return home to take on the reigning Great Northeast Athletic Conference champion, Johnson and Wales in a 3 p.m. match up Friday, Sept. 24 in Andrews Hall.
