Box Score 2 STANDISH, Maine - The Norwich University softball team dropped a pair of Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) games at St. Joseph's (Maine) on Sunday afternoon.
St. Joseph's (Maine) busted out the bats in the bottom of the third inning with three runs and then five more in the bottom of the fourth to cruise to an 11-3 win in six innings in Game 1. The Monks (6-6, 2-0 GNAC) then completed the sweep with a big bottom of the sixth inning to break a 3-3 tie and secure the 7-3 victory in the nightcap.
In Game 2, Liliana Rolfe (Plainville, Mass.), Dara Kelly (Chesterfied, N.J.) and Maggie Rasmussen (Kingston, N.H.) each had two hits to lead the offense, but it wasn't enough to keep up with the Monks.
Rasmussen, Annika Beebe (Marianna, Fla.) and Nina Biello (Cranston, R.I.) picked up RBIs for the Cadets as they briefly led 3-2 in the middle of the third inning before the Monks tied things back up.
Beebe picked up the loss in the pitcher's circle, surrendering four earned runs on eight hits and four walks, while striking out five.
In Game 1, Laura Deaton (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.), Rasmussen and Caitlin Dailey (Topsham, Maine) all had RBI hits to lead the Cadets' offense.
Norwich's Allison Northup (Westerly, R.I.) took the loss in the pitcher's circle.
Norwich will return to action on Wednesday when it hosts Castleton in non-conference action on the NU Softball Field at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
