He allowed two runs (one earned) and surrendered three walks while fanning five batters. He improves to 2-1 on the season. Freshman Matt Ingraffia (Lake Grove, N.Y.) was called on to record the final two outs of the game, one of which he recorded via K.
The Cadets struck for one run in the third inning and one in the fourth before the Chargers rallied for a run in both the fifth and sixth innings to tie the game 2-2. Norwich plated four runs in the home half of the sixth to pull away 6-2.
Sophomore right fielder PJ Morales (Bakersfield, Calif.) went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI while senior center fielder Koby Foster (Estill Springs, Tenn.) went 2-for-2 with a double and a walk. In game two, Norwich junior Tanner Raymond (Southbury, Conn.) tossed a gem on the mound, allowing just five hits over six innings of work. He walked one batter and struck out five to improve to 2-0. Ingraffia was called upon for his second relief stint of the day and picked up his first career save, stranding an inherited runner in scoring position and striking out two.
The lone NU RBI came in the bottom of the fourth inning on an infield single by Foster that scored Morales. Gehringer, Morales and Foster all had one hit in the victory.
Norwich improves to 6-2 on the season while Colby-Sawyer falls to 0-2. The Cadets are next in action on Wednesday, against the same Chargers squad. The game site is yet to be determined.
