Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University women's soccer team played its first intercollegiate game in 518 days on Sunday as the Cadets took on New England College in its 2020-21 season opener.
However, New England College (1-0) played spoiler as the Pilgrims scored in the 41st minute with a goal from Lauren Hobson to edge the Cadets 1-0.
Mackenzie Fels picked up the assist as she fed the ball over Hobson in the middle of the field, who buried a shot into the corner of the net.
New England College outshot Norwich 20-10 in the game. Freshman Jillian Patria (Rindge, N.H.) and sophomore Isabel Doherty (Quincy, Mass.) each had four shots to tie for the Cadets' lead.
Freshman goalkeeper Kayla Dawson (Brooksville, Fla.) played the first 60 minutes, making eight saves in goal for the Cadets in her collegiate debut. Junior Kim Watt (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) came on for the final 30 minutes to stop four shots on goal.
Norwich will return to action on Saturday, April 3 when the Cadets host NVU Johnson at 12 p.m. on Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium.
