Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt. – After falling behind 1-0 after the first period, the Norwich University women's ice hockey team would not be denied in its home finale as the Cadets scored four unanswered goals to cruise to the 4-1 win over Castleton on Friday night.
Norwich (6-1-0) won its sixth straight game as Mikah Baptiste (Ottawa, Ontario), Samantha Benoit (Bow, N.H.) and Silvia Bjorgvinsdottir (Akureye, Iceland) each had a goal and an assist to lead the Cadets' offense.
Freshman goalie Leocadia Clark (Stowe, Vt.) improved to 4-0-0 on the season, stopping 13 shots in goal.
Castleton (6-6-1) took a 1-0 lead at the 3:39 mark of the first period with Ryanne Mix ripping a shot top-shelf and over the shoulder of Clark from the right wing off assists from Brooke Greenwood and Kaitlin Bardellini.
Benoit finally leveled the score at the 1:14 mark of the second period, wristing a shot from the middle of the slot past Kirsten DiCicco for her second goal of the year. Bjorgvinsdottir and Nikki LaGue (Barre, Vt.) picked up assists on the goal.
Baptiste scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal at the 19:04 mark of second period with Baptiste scoring off assists from Ingrid Holstad-Berge (Stavanger, Norway) and Morgan Tefft (Redwood City, Calif.).
Norwich added two more power play goals in the third period to pull away from the Spartans. Bjorgvinsdottir and Melianne Reynolds (Sherbrooke, Quebec) scored the goals.
Norwich outshot Castleton 31-14 in the game. The two teams will close out the 2021 season on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Spartan Arena.
