PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Norwich University women's basketball team was able to go into winter break with a victory, downing Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe Johnson & Wales, 55-52.

Haley Brewster (Virginia Beach, Va.) again took control scoring a game-high 16 points in the contest, while Maren McGinn (Georgia, Vt.) grabbed seven boards and scored 10 points, while shooting 5-of-9 from the field. Katelyn DeSilvio (Chelmsford, Mass.) added nine points in the contest and six Cadets registered an assist.

After the Wildcats scored the opening six points of the contest, Norwich rattled off nine of the next 11 points in the contest to take a 9-8 advantage. Johnson & Wales responded immediately coming down the court for the jumper by Autumn Ford. The Cadets ended the quarter holding a three-point lead.

In the second quarter, Johnson & Wales were able to keep it close after a Sydney Butera jumper, cut the Cadet lead to two points. 

The Cadets and the Wildcats battled to a 36-36 tie, and Ford again hit a jumper to retake the lead for Johnson & Wales, holding a 38-26 lead as they went into the final frame.

Trailing by seven with 3:40 remaining, the Cadets battled back to make even things up at 51-51 with 1:11 left on the clock. Norwich closed the game with a 11-1 scoring run to take down the Wildcats.

Norwich (4-5, 2-0 GNAC) will be off until the New Year when they open up the 2022 portion of the schedule with a 3 p.m. matchup against Elms on Tuesday, Jan. 4 in Andrews Hall. The Cadets will then face off against Regis on Thursday, Jan. 6 at 7 p.m. in Weston, Mass.
