Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University men's basketball team opened their season with an 86-71 victory over MCLA Tuesday night in Andrews Hall.
Owen Liss (West Suffield, Conn.) scored 20 points and crashed the boards, snagging nine rebounds in his collegiate debut. There were a total of four Cadets with double-digit scoring as Liss, Samuel-Noah Osarenkhoe (Stockholm, Sweden), Spencer Conatser (Reno, Nev.), and Kohlby Murray (Fair Haven, Vt.) all accomplished the feat.
Kyle Booth (Northfield, Vt.) led the Cadets off the glass collecting 11 boards in the game. Jalen Olivero (Holyoke, Mass.) assisted on eight of the team's 36 buckets in the contest.
After Bright Afful converted on the Trailblazers first shot of the game, Norwich scored the next five points off of a Liss layup and Osarenkhoe converting on a three-point attempt the next trip down.
After trailing 14-7 with 14:49 remaining in the first half, The Cadets were able to outscore MCLA the next 6:55 to tale a 23-21 lead. Norwich extended their lead to six points, before the Trailblazers scored five points in the final 35 seconds of the half to go into halftime with the Cadets holding a 39-38 edge.
After being outscored 12-5 in the first five minutes of the second half, Norwich turned it up scoring 25 of the games next 30 points over an eight-minute span to take control of the game.
The Cadets would not allow the Trailblazers back in within 10 points the rest of the game on their way to a 15-point win.
Norwich (1-0, 0-0 GNAC) will return to the court on Friday when NVU Johnson comes to Andrews Hall for a 6:30 p.m. tilt. The Cadets will then face off against Lesley down in Massachusetts before playing in the Granite City Shootout beginning on Friday, Nov. 19.
