Box Score ATTLEBORO, Mass. - The Norwich University women's ice hockey team defeated Johnson & Wales 4-2 on Saturday afternoon at the New England Sports Center in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action.
Julia Masotta (Tewksbury, Mass.), Saige Biddle (Wilmington, Del.), Maddi Blauth (Pennington, N.J.) and Kenady Nevicosi (Breckenridge, Colo.) each scored goals to lead the Cadets to the victory. Norwich extended its unbeaten streak to 52 straight games in NEHC play with the weekend sweep of UMass Boston and Johnson & Wales.
Masotta opened the scoring at the 1:43 mark off assists from Ann-Frederique Guay (St. Lambert-de-Lauzon, Quebec) and Mikah Baptiste (Ottawa, Ontario).
Norwich (2-0-0, 2-0-0 NEHC) made it 2-0 just 1:07 later with Blauth scoring off an assist from Melianne Reynolds (Sherbrooke, Quebec).
Biddle scored her second goal of the weekend at the 6:30 mark of the third period and then Nevicosi scored on the power play from Aimee Headland (Nottingham, United Kingdom) and Maddie Moell (Clarence Center, N.Y.).
JWU scored twice in the final 10 minutes to cut the deficit to 4-2, but that's as close as the Wildcats would get as Norwich held on for the win.
Sophomore Leocadia Clark (Stowe, Vt.) stopped 18 shots to improve to 6-0-0 in her collegiate career.
Norwich will travel to No. 1-ranked Plattsburgh State on Wednesday for a huge 7 p.m. non-conference showdown wih the Cardinals. Norwich and Plattsburgh were scheduled to meet in the 2020 NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals, prior to COVID-19 cancelling the remainder of the tournament two days before the game was scheduled to be played.
