Football: Norwich Closes out Season on the Road, Fall 35-14 to Catholic

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Norwich University football team battled throughout the first half with the Cardinals of Catholic University Saturday afternoon at Cardinal Stadium in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), ultimately falling 35-14.   

Owen Trudeau (Underhill, Vt.) came into the game off the bench completing eight of his 13 pass attempts for 79 yards and a touchdown, while throwing two interceptions. Jehric Hackney (Jerico, Vt.) had the best game of his young career, rushing for 144 yards on 26 rushing attempts with a touchdown. 

Trevor Chase (Eliot, Maine) had five catches for 48 yards in the game averaging 9.6 yards per reception with a touchdown. 

Joseph Bornes (Sharpsville, Pa.) had a pair of tackles, an interception, and a pass breakup in the game, while Zev Motew (Highland Park, Ill.) led the Cadets with seven total tackles in the game. Patrick Keefe (Andover, Mass.) got into the mix recording six tackles, including an eight-yard sack in the matchup. 

After starting their opening drive on their own 25-yardline, Norwich took 5:52 off the clock during their opening drive as they used a combination of Hackney, Parady, and Rashawn Fraser (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) to push the ball to the Catholic 35-yardline. Catholic's defense was able to get a stop though, after Gabe Aparicio intercepted a Cadet pass attempt at the 5-yardline. 

Bornes returned the favor on the following Catholic drive, intercepting Madden Lowe at the home 33-yardline and returning the ball five yards.  

It remained scoreless until 6:03 remained in the second quarter, after a nine play, 68-yard drive was capped off by a 15-yard rush by Andrew Comeau. Catholic ended the first half with a 7-0 advantage. 

The Cardinals kept their offense firing beginning with a five play, 68-yard touchdown drive set up with a 47-yard completion by Lowe to Mark Cheffers.  

After Catholic two more times in the third quarter, Norwich got on the scoreboard working with good starting field position, the Trudeau completed a 25-yard pass to Chase for a touchdown, putting the Cadets on the board down 28-7. 

Lowe completed his last of three touchdowns on the day, before Norwich used a six play, 69-yard drive capped off by Hackney rushing into the endzone for two yards. 

Norwich closes out the season with a 2-8 record, and a 1-5 record in conference play.
